From the front page, each regions' trading panels can be opened by clicking on the regions' icon.
Once clicked, two large panels and one smaller panel will open:
The region navigation panel allows the trader to choose among the available city locations in that region to trade. The available cities are listed in the lower right, and the trader can choose by simply clicking on the desired city.
If a region has cities that offer more than one degree day underlying, then separate PL bubbles will appear next to the city on the map to reflect this. The trader can choose the underlying to trade by clicking on the desired index among the Degree Day choice buttons.
Here WeatherMage introduces a novel way to view a trader's series of active trades in a location by representing all active trades in a composite payoff profile. The profile is presented vertically where the white horizontal line represents what value the current market mid would result in at settlement.
This value is also shown above as the "settlement value".
The advantages of representing open trades in this manner for trading weather derivatives will become clear once options are introduced in the next version of WeatherMage.
Immediately below the position panel is a small panel containing the trading buttons. The buy and sell buttons are populated with the real-time bid and ask from the market maker. These prices are where the trader must execute at when pressed.
The average of the bid and ask is called the "Mid-Market" or just "Mid". This is the price the open positions are valued at in real-time.
All trades in a location are cumulative and their payoff profiles summed to create the composite profile. All trades are kept open and presented in this manner until they are closed by the trader by pressing "Close Position" in the trading button panel.
When a trader closes the position, the cost to execute a full close is calculated and applied to the positions current PL. This net amount is then added to the Realized PL, and all positions are then closed out. This process takes a few seconds. The trader will see when it is completed as no profile will appear any longer, and all PL figures will zero out.
When the trader wants to exit the trading panels, they can do so by pressing the "Close Trading Panels" button floating below the region navigation panel.
